CPG Special Lecture “Taking the Lead: Party Rule under Xi Jinping”
27 March from 14:00 - 17:00Free
27 March 2019, 02.00-05.00 pm., Room 123, Faculty of Law, Thammasat University, Tha Prachan Campus
Within Xi Jinping’s concept of the grand rejuvenation of the Chinese nation in a new era, the leadership of the Communist Party is the indispensible guarantor of China’s stability and unity in the country’s development towards the envisioned double-objective of a prosperous society and global power. Since assuming power in 2012, Xi has put the country’s one-party system to a new height in terms of power penetration reaching to all sectors of politics, military and society.
The special lecture will explore the measures taken by Xi to reform the Communist Party and to expand its power focusing on new disciplinary rules and regulations for party members, the sweeping anti-corruption campaign, the massive military reform, the reform of the command structure of the People’s Armed Police, and the establishment of party cells on grass-root level. It will also highlight the question of party power with regards to intra-party power struggle among factions, tensions between center and periphery as well as the relation between party and people.
